The first session with Lilie Ferrari
When we first meet with Lilie Ferrari, she first introduced herself and told us a little bit about herself. We got to know how she got to write her novel and what was the journey for her to work on EastEndersand what she did after that.

During the session we:
Said two truths and one lie:
We had to write three things about ourselves in which only two were true. The other one had to be a lie and the rest of the group, including our mentor and Ferrari herself. Mine were:
Truth: I was 12 when I had my own poetry night, reading my poetry.
Truth: When I was about 8 I was able to read books in German
Lie: When I was 11 I sang solo a Christmas song on a CD that was sold in my home town.
I quite liked what we did there. It allowed us to learn abotu ourselves a little bit more and showed us that we al lare able to come up with a story if it is both lie or truth.
Finding interesting information about other person:
Here we were put into pairs with people that we do not usually talk to. We had to interview each other, finding three interesting things about them that we did not know before and that they did not say during the first activity. We had three minutes each to do that.
Personally, I think it was really fun. I got to learn interesting and funny things about the person that I have not really spoken to before.
Lilie Ferrari said that the most interesting and real stories are the stories around us that we usually ignore. Those are the stories of real people around us that we can hear everywhere around us. She told us to listen to people and what they are talking about. Our own experience are not enough to create different characters with different stories, experiences and thought. Observing people and listetning to them is the key to be able to create interesting and unique characters and stories.
“The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand.
We listen to reply.”
― Stephen R. Covey
Playing roles:
Later on we had to pick a piece of paper with a character written on it. Mine said "posh, middle aged person". We were given a story. We had to confece to someone that we stole money from someones wallet.
We had to do it in a way that we thought that our character would do it.
It showed us how one issue can be represented within different characters because of their life, connotations or stereotypes. It proved that everyone is different and different people will tell the same story from different perspectives and that is why we need to be able to understand other people and their point of view to be able to create lots of unique characters.
Watching "the wire":
We watched the first scene from "the wire" where we were introduced to a policeman asking questions in a crime scene. Later on we discussed how the way he was talking was telling us who he is, what he is like etc.
We were told that the first scene should be able to introduce us to the story so we know the base of it; we can make the contract. But it also has to leave us with a question which will encourage us to watch more.
We were given the script to read before we watched the clip, because of the hard to understand accent. Lilie Ferrari wanted to make sure that we will understand what the characters are saying so we were able to analyses their character through their actions and way they were talking, and what they were saying.
The basic structure of script writing:
At the end Lilie Ferrari introduced us to very basic structure of script writing. We were given a list of what we should remember when creating a character, however she said that it is not the right thing to create a character entirely from a list. It should have a deeper meaning that just a list. It was given to us just as a reminder.
We were introduced to the Story line Doc.
The list goes:
1. episode outline
2. screen breakdown
↓
dialogue
We were told to work in two groups, trying to come up with a pitch for the drama. We had to come up with another working title for the project, log line and the basic shape of the idea that we have for it. We had only 10 minutes to do it and choose the person who'll pitch the idea to Lilie Ferrari and our mentor. Lielie would then ask questions that our member had to answer.
